Crohn’s Disease Crohn’s disease is a debilitating disease that can affect your entire life and lifestyle if you allow it to. It affects someone that is very dear to me, my best friend’s mother, Stephanie. I see her live through this day in and day out, and it has raised many questions in my mind. Questions like how you get it, why you get it, and what you really go through when you have it. It is something I have little knowledge of, and by learning more information on it, I feel as if I can possibly help her cope with it in the future. I know that Stephanie’s intestines are severely affected by it, and I think the disease eats away at your intestines. You can only imagine how painful that sounds, and this woman experiences it.†¦show more content†¦It is painful to watch someone go through it, but she has become accustomed to it and has learned to include it in her daily life. I admire her strength and it has inspired me to pursue a search in finding as much information as I can about it. For my interview, I asked Stephanie questions concerning her disease, Crohn’s. During our talk, she informed me that the hardest part is the pain and the fatigue. Sometimes she feels depressed due to the constant pain and fatigue. She also stated that it can be extremely embarrassing at times, and she has trouble planning activities because she never knows when the painful diarrhea will set in. Diarrhea has been and is a normal part of her life for the past 8 years. When she was first diagnosed with Crohn’s, she had accidents on herself as a result of the uncontrollable bowel movements. You can become dehydrated, and lose lots of blood with this disease. She has been out of work for up to three months at a time. Aside from the pain and embarrassment, one of the biggest drawbacks for her is being looked upon as handicapped. Right now, the disease is in remission, but she is one of the lucky ones. Some people diagnosed with Crohn’s never go into remission. In many cases, people decide to undergo surgery to remove the diseased area, but Stephanie and her doctor made the wise decision to wait it out. While these activists are busy calling for the American popular music industry to kill the goose that lays the golden egg in order to restore its shattered moral compass, I would like to draw your attention to look at the song from a feminist perspective. The song, of which I will explain in a more demure tone, basically stressed on the fact that the larger posteriors they possessed, the greater sex appeal they have. Women in this category should use it as a weapon to quash the dominance of skinny women, who had been comfortably recognized by mainstream beauty standards for decades. On a positive note, â€Å"Anaconda† attempts to build up the self-esteem of women, who failed to acknowledge that their bodies are unique and beautiful in their own ways. However, I am concerned with methods used to attain the goal. Ironically, one of them is the objectification of beauty. The trampling of skinny women to elevate the status of women with voluptuous posteriors is an endeavor to redefine the meaning of beauty, but the process itself is a counteraction against common idea of beauty, which has already been objectified. In other words, no matter how well they argue, they are not capable of breaking through the beauty is objectified frame. This is coherent with the understanding of George Santayana (1896), who believed that beauty is subjectively conceptualized according to human interests and feelings but is however guided by a sense of attraction, which eventually leads to ‘pleasure-objectified’. They fought for what they believed was right. The two gentlemen however fought very different battles although they seem to be fighting the same prejudice. The two men were very influential in American culture. Malcolm X and Martin Luther King were able to use the media to allow their voices to be heard. I will be explaining the reasons why these two gentlemen fought such extreme battles fueled by passion and hate. The media have always been a presence during the movement of the 60’s. During the time of the movement the nation was glued to the media. Martin Luther King, Jr. , is known for his nonviolent manner for leading a protest. As Martin Luther King led his followers, he taught them protest with respect and dignity. Instead of violence, King and others posted signs at every bus stop that read, â€Å"Don’t ride the bus today, don’t ride it for freedom†, as stated by (Moultan, Phillips, Styza, Gonzales, 2007) According to, (Moultan, Phillips, Styza, Gonzales, 2007), the protesters would not fight back when the whites against segregation would fight or attack the protesters which turned out to be a very powerful move. According to (Moultan, Phillips, Styza, Gonzales, 2007), after 381 days of boycotting the bus system they went to the Supreme Court. Eventually they Supreme Court ruled that is unconstitutional to separate people based on the color of their skin. This is proof that with determination and patience, laws can be changed without the use of violence. Malcolm X wanted the same thing Malcolm X did, freedom. Malcolm X, however, took a very different approach than Martin Luther King did. He felt violence was a way to handle the injustice of segregation. Malcolm X was a follower of the Nation of Islam. Until he made his journey to Mecca, he preached about how all whites are the devils. After his journey to Mecca he saw a different way of approaching the segregation and hatred of whites. Malcolm X still believed in violence when came to fighting for what he felt was right according to, (Simkin, 2003). (Simkin, 2003) states that Malcolm X said in a speech in March of 19I am for violence if non-violence means we continue postponing a solution to the American black mans problem just to avoid violence. I dont go for non-violence if it also means a delayed solution. To me a delayed solution is a non-solution. Or Ill say it another way. If it must take violence to get the black man his human rights in this country, Im for violence exactly as you know the Irish, the Poles, or Jews would be if they were flagrantly discriminated against. (Simkin, 2003) In conclusion, the two men had an extraordinary will to change the future for what they believed was right. The Medias involvement is how we still know today what these men did for this country. Malcolm X and Martin Luther King both took a different approach when they fought for their beliefs. The one thing they had in common was the cause, freedom.
